The first design is elegant, classy, and clean. Since Katniss and Peeta are dressed in extravagant clothing I wanted the viewer to know this is a special and fancy occasion. I decided to use the cursive typeface to communicate the idea of sophistication, grace, and refinement. Also cursive has a personal touch as roots of this font come from handwriting showing the individuality in human writing. Plus it is timeless like the love the couple hopes to share. The communication changes in the second design because the font in the second graphic appears childish and whimsical and looks like something that may appear on a party invitation. It is not as successful as the initial design as the font used in the second design does not make the names of the couple stand out. The font feels more casual and somewhat scattered. The second design is somewhat harder to follow with the eyes because the font is less crisp and exact compared to the first design. The fonts I chose for my first design were Lora, Buongiorno Rastellino, and Alex Brush. Lora is a serif font where buongiorno rastellino and alex brush are script fonts. Lora font tends to be used for headlines. Famous brands like Hallmark, Disney, Coca- Cola, and Cadillac use script fonts and many luxury brands also use script fonts. For the second design I used Pony Club, Lustria, and Kawthar. Pony Club is a sans serif font with an ink brush appearance. Lustria is a rounded serif where Kawthar is a round edged sans-serif. Famous brands that use serif fonts include Tiffany & Co, Mercedes- Benz, GAP, Vogue, and the Wall Street Journal. Famous sans serif fonts include Gucci, Nike, Apple, and Google to name a few. In both designs I contrasted the type of font, the size of the font, and the line thickness. I made Save The Date and the names of Katniss and Peeta larger so they would stand out in the frame. In the first design I bolded Save, Date, and the actual date of June 21st to make them pop. The contrasting of the types of font made different words become more visually appealing and helped make ones eye be directed to the typeface. While I did contrast fonts I stuck to three fonts for each design so in both graphics the font is repeated, also I kept the color of the font consistent as the white on the green background was more striking and helped give the design a polished look. I also decided to put the flowers on each side of the frame and the two gold lines to bring more repetition to the image. In terms of allignment I decided to put Save The Date and the details about the ceremony off center slightly so that the eyes may gradually be pulled in that direction and to give the image some movement and more visual weight. I also decided to place Katniss and Peeta's image off center as we mentioned in class the further away an object gets from the center of the frame the more it increases in visual weight. Finally with Proximity I listed the text in order of the information that was most important to the viewer and broke it into lines to keep things organized and to make the graphic easy to read and to have the information easy to grasp and remember. Overall I enjoyed this project and having the ability to use the skills I have learned over the years in design to make an image of something that brings me joy.
